Product DESCRIPTION

Release Date: 02/07/2025

'Marica Hiraga made her debut as a jazz vocalist with the album 'My Shining Hour' in 2001. Since then, she has released 11 albums, including her latest work, 'J_ia' (2020). Now, her best-of album is available on LP only. Recorded between Tokyo and New York, the album highlights collaborations with an array of extraordinary artists. Highlights include the Burt Bacharach-themed album 'Close to Bacharach' with the Manhattan Jazz Quintet, 'Sing With The Duke Ellington Orchestra' featuring the Duke Ellington Orchestra, and the Nat King Cole tribute album 'Mona Lisa' with master guitarist Mark Whitfield. Another standout is 'Batucada,' an album that traces the evolution of bossa nova and Brazilian music in the U.S. On the track 'Antonio's Song,' she performs a duet with Michael Franks, complemented by an instrumental solo from Phil Woods-a dream come true for fans. Each of the 11 tracks has been meticulously chosen, offering diverse and captivating highlights. Marica Hiraga - Born in Tokyo. A leading figure in Japan's jazz vocal scene, Marica Hiraga is celebrated for her vibrant and swinging vocal style. Her repertoire spans jazz, bossa nova, Latin, pop, film music, and beautiful Japanese songs. She trained in jazz vocals under Martha Miyake and honed her voice with Kimiko Itoh. Representing Japan at the Asia Music Festival in Hong Kong, she won the Gold Prize and subsequently turned professional. She further polished her skills in New York through vocal training and sessions. Since her debut album in 2001, Hiraga has released 11 albums, including collaborations with the Manhattan Jazz Quintet, Phil Woods, Michael Franks, and the Duke Ellington Orchestra. Her work has earned accolades such as the Jazz Disc Award and Jazz Vocal Award. Her live performances are equally diverse, including concerts in Taipei, Taiwan, and Saint Petersburg, Russia. She has also ventured beyond jazz, performing with the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra on ballet music at the New National Theatre. Currently, while mentoring younger talents, Hiraga continues to perform nationwide, with a focus on Tokyo.
