Product DESCRIPTION

Release Date: 09/26/2025

Babo Moreno is the brainchild of Fabio de Oliveria, a respected drummer and percussionist, who having worked with the likes of Sault, Jacob Collier, Terry Callier, Alfa Mist, Jalen Ngonda and Airto Moreira, is now stepping forward with his own sound. Fabio is the proud bearer of a legacy of Brazilian music in London, particularly influenced by the artist's father, renowned percussionist Bosco de Oliveira (Terry Callier, Sade, Working Week, Dom Um Romao & Founder of the London School Of Samba). Babo Moreno, an independent artist, was featured in Giles Peterson's BBC 6 Music 'Looking ahead to 2025' show at the start of the year, having already been celebrated across UK radio including Jazz FM (Tony Minvielle, Robbie Vincent, Dom Sevini & Reuben Green's 'Song of The Week'), BBC Radio 2 (Jamie Cullum), 6 Music (Giles Peterson, Cerys Matthews), BBC Radio 3 (Soweto Kinch), BBC London (Robert Elms Live Session), NTS, Worldwide FM & Soho Radio. Prominent support includes Jamie Cullum who called his debut single Rei Da Pesca 'one of my tracks of the year no doubt' on his BBC Radio 2 show and Jordan Rakei calling himself a 'big fan' of this 'new artist leaning into Brazilian sounds'. Having sold out his London Latin Jazz Festival show and been selected as a Rising Talent by La Linea festival to support Francisco, el hombre at London's legendary Jazz Cafe, this debut album is well awaited by his fans. Babo Moreno spearheads a new generation of world leading British-Brazilian instrumental music. The enchanting mix of jazz & Brazilian influences (Forro, Ijexa, Maracatu) is an exuberant articulation of life as a young Londoner from an immigrant family, and the mix of Brazilian roots and London swag is unmatched. Think... Hermeto Pascoal meets Tony Allen and Eddie Palmieri in a Notting Hill bar. The artist's self-titled debut album, driven by Fabio from behind the drums, is an ode from this British artist to his Brazilian heritage, expressing a sense of joy, nostalgia and, at the same time, alienation through his dual identity. It sits alongside a new wave of Brazilian artists (Amaro Freitas, Bala Desejo, Tunico) who build upon the country's rich musical heritage. The album features top-tier musicians such as Dennis Rollins (Maceo Parker, Pee Wee Ellis, Monty Alexander), Mercury Prize 2023 winner Ife Ogunjobi (Ezra Collective, WizKid, Burna Boy), Gilli Lopes (Dom Salvador, Duduka Da Fonseca), Tamar Osborn (Dele Sosimi, Collocutor, Sarathy Korwar) with a special feature from Baque Luar, a London-based collective of female and non-binary vocalists and percussionists. The album was recorded at Livingston Studios and Fish Factory Studios. It was co-written and co-arranged by Greg Sanders, produced by Fabio de Oliveira, engineered and mixed by Benedic Lamdin (Nostalgia 77) and mastered by Caspar Sutton-Jones at Gearbox Records. Tracklisting: A1. La Ciudad Perdida (Part 1) A2. Bicho Preguica (The Sloth) A3. Canto de Kantor A4. Rei Da Pesca B1. O Palhaco B2. La Ciudad Perdida (Part 2) B3. Sun City B4. Baleias (Ft. Baque Luar)
