Room 318 Productions and Laced Records are bringing Akira Yamaoka's score for the 2026 motion picture Return to Silent Hill to vinyl with a 2LP release featuring 29 specially remastered tracks curated by Yamaoka himself to capture the film's themes of love, loss, guilt, and obsession, as well as the spirit of the SILENT HILL 2 video game on which it is based. A defining creative force behind the series since it's beginning, Yamaoka returns as the sole composer for his third motion picture score set in the SILENT HILL universe, guided by his principles of not composing purely through emotion, blurring the line between music and environmental sound, and refusing to reject beauty. Working closely with director Christophe Gans, he rebuilt the sound world of SILENT HILL 2 into a standalone film score, reimagining iconic cues such as "Chasing Laura" and "Brookhaven Hospital" so they could breathe within the film's imagery, pacing, and characters' inner lives rather than simply replay the game's music. The result is a soundtrack that welcomes both longtime survival horror fans and newcomers into the fog with distorted sounds, jagged textures, and an unstable, murky beauty at it's core.
