Ira Glass - the Chicago post-hardcore quintet of Lise Ivanova (vocals/guitar), Landon Kerouac (drums), Jill Roth (saxophone), and Kaleb Wallace (bass) - resists any one categorization. Across 2 EPs, Ira Glass tap noise, screamo, and free jazz to create a sleek and specific catalog. Debut EP 'compound turbulence flexing for the heat' was recorded at Steve Albini's Electrical Audio Studios and dedicated to the late auteur, influenced by Albini's storied contributions to underground music. The subsequent 'joy is no knocking nation' EP was recorded straight to tape, and doubled down on Ira Glass' confrontational, genre-bending sound. Ira Glass' catalog - brought to vinyl for the first time on a split LP - is a spellbinding cacophony, anchored by a timelessly punk ethos and disarmingly poetic musings.
