The versatile musician proves that he can play with force as much as with feeling, and his songs are as easygoing as the jazz number "I'm Your Levee Man" to rollicking with fury in "Swing That Thing" or "La Bega's Carousel." His rhythms, his guitar solos, his voice-everything is carefully measured and brilliantly balanced. Esther Rose King is featured on the duet "Wanton Way Of Living," and it's a beautiful piece of harmony. Various accompanists appear on others-"Last Night I Dreamed My Birthday," "Cadillac Slim"-all packed with dense instrumental work and impressive vocals. 14 tracks. Bloodshot.
