As earlier compilations of danza meccanica have made clear, Italy gave birth to a disproportionate number of synthpop, new wave, and electronic acts in the 1980s. Mannequin goes deeper into the Italian new wave with a killer ten-track selection of Carmody. Taking their name from Robert Sheckley's 1968 science fiction novel Dimension of Miracles, Carmody came from Torino, alongside contemporaries Monuments and Chromagain. They began as the duo of Alberto Ramella and Andrea Lesmo before expanding to a trio, with Max Casacci on guitar. They recorded from 1981 to 1985 and issued three incredibly rare demo tapes. Sleep on Mirrors compiles the best tracks from those tapes, highlighting some of the most peculiar minimal synth music to come out of Italy in the 1980s. Mastered by Rude 66.
